My Trip to Salou, Spain

Recently, I travelled to Salou, a beautiful resort town nestled along the Costa Dorada of northeastern Spain in the Catalonia region.

Known for its turquiose waters and golden sandy beaches that stretch for miles, this picturesque area makes the perfect beach holiday. We stayed at a lovely hotel in Cap Salou, a quieter area a mile or so north of the main part of Salou. The hotel overlooked the beach, which was just what we were looking for. Cap Salou is very hilly, but has some nice coves to visit and fantastic views. This hidden gem provides a peaceful retreat and is ideal for those wanting a relaxing stay.

The main part of Salou has a lot of things to do and is a very buzzy area. Shops, restaurants, bars, entertainment — it offers something for all. For foodies, try Spanish cuisine at local eateries, where you can find fresh seafood, paella, and tapas. For adventure seekers, Salou has nearby waterparks, theme parks, and other fun things to do and see.

Salou has an interesting history dating back to Roman times, evident in its ancient monuments and architecture. On one day, we took a bus to Tarragona, which has even more historic features. You’ll find many ancient ruins remain from its time as the Roman colony of Tarraco. We visited the Roman Wall of Tarragona, which is the oldest and most well-preserved monument in the city of Tarragona. It’s definitely worth visiting for history enthusiasts.

With its hot climate (the average high temperatures in July & August range from 28°C to 31°C, with occasional spikes into the mid-30s), stunning scenery, and variety of activities for all ages, Salou is the ultimate destination for an unforgettable Mediterranean escape. If you’re looking for locations to add to your travel list, I would definitely recommend Salou!
