If you haven’t already seen You, then I would urge you to give it a watch. It follows Joe Goldberg, a seemingly charming bookstore manager with a dark and obsessive side. The show currently has four seasons (a fifth final season is due to air on Netflix in 2024). In each season, viewers are taken on a chilling journey through Joe’s mind as he becomes entangled in toxic relationships, all while appearing normal to the outside world and concealing his hidden tendency for murder.
The script for this show is excellent. You really feel as if you are living in Joe’s chaotic, dangerous mind. Penn Badgley does a fantastic job of portraying this unique character. The show explores the complexities of Joe’s character, as he grapples with the consequences of his actions, all while continuing his disturbing pursuit of “love”.
This show is so gripping that you will find yourself glued to the screen. If you like dark psychological thrillers, this is one to watch!
Top Boy
Based in London, Top Boy is a gritty drama that delves into the harsh realities and challenges of gang violence, drugs and survival in the tough streets of Summerhouse estate.
A strong point of the show is its captivating, realistic characters. You find yourself very invested in the characters, who each have a developed backstory and struggle that adds complexity to the narrative. I particularly liked the characters Jamie (played by Micheal Ward) and Dushane (played by Ashley Walters.) This series portrays how dangerous the drug game is, whatever level you are on. As you can imagine, there is a lot of violence and death — it is extremely easy to lose your life and end up on a “hit list.”
Top Boy is a binge-able show filled with plot twists, tension, build-up and amazing performances. I would definitely recommend it! Please note — first watch “Top Boy Summerhouse” (the first two series that were created by Channel 4 before it was bought by Netflix) before watching “Top Boy”.
Behind Her Eyes
This show is just one season with 6 episodes, but definitely worth a watch. It’s a psychological thriller that will keep you hooked from the start. It follows the story of a single mother, Louise, who begins an affair with her psychiatrist boss while secretly befriending his mysterious wife. She becomes entangled in a complex web of secrets and deceit.
What makes this thriller unique is its paranormal / horror element. This component is especially prominent in the last episode with an unexpected ending that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Behind Her Eyes is filled with suspense, twists and turns, and incredible acting. I would highly recommend it to lovers of psychological suspense stories — you won’t be disappointed!
