Quick Takes | 5 Film Reviews

I’m sharing five short and snappy reviews of films I’ve watched recently — just the essentials, no spoilers. From dark romance to intense thrillers and epic action, this list has something for everyone. Let’s dive in!

It Ends With Us

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this film due to Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s current legal battle. Despite the drama off-screen, does the film do justice to the book? I think that the film was directed with sensitivity and captures the essence of the book. While not the easiest watch at times due to the domestic violence theme, It Ends With Us is a moving film that handles a very difficult subject with grace. It features great performances from Lively and Baldoni. Like the book, you find yourself rooting for Lily and women like her who fight to break the cycle of abuse. A great watch.

Gladiator 2

Gladiator 2 brings a new generation into the brutal world of the Roman Empire. With its stunning visuals, intense battles, and gripping plot, its a thoroughly enjoyable film. While it may not capture the same depth as its predecessor, its strong cast and epic action make it a worthy watch. Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington deliver amazing performances, elevating the film with their commanding presence. This sequel definitely does justice to the legacy while bringing out its own unique style. Both fans of the first film and newcomers won’t be disappointed!

Subservience

Subservience is a sci-fi thriller that taps into the fears of AI dependence. Megan Fox does well in her lead role as a lifelike AI companion. The film does a good job of exploring the ethical issues of AI and the consequences of relying on technology too much. Although the film is engaging and builds suspense well, it doesn’t fully explore its deeper themes. While it has thrilling moments, I felt that the plot was a bit predictable and that there was more to uncover. A decent watch for sci-fi and tech-thriller fans.

Rating: 3/5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Trap

Set in a high-profile concert, Trap is a psychological thriller that will keep you hooked from the very start. The film is original, full of unpredictable twists and turns, and is very engaging. Josh Hartnett delivers a standout performance as Cooper, a father who brings his daughter to a concert. Cooper has a dark secret and is caught in a web of deception. While some plot elements may not be the most realistic, overall the film is both entertaining and gripping. A must-watch for fans of psychological thrillers.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Knock at the Cabin

In Knock at the Cabin, a family vacation takes a terrifying turn when four strangers arrive at their remote cabin, claiming that one of them must die to prevent the apocalypse. As the tension builds, the family navigates making an impossible decision, and grapple with fear, morality, and the fate of the world in their hands. All of the cast were excellent in their roles, especially Dave Batista. This film is dark, chilling, and will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. A very enjoyable watch for thriller fans.
