How to Find Your Personal StyleFinding your personal style can be a struggle. Most of us have had moments where we’ve looked inside our wardrobe full of clothes and had no idea what to wear. I know I’ve been there myself, for sure! But, personal style is more than just not having anything to wear and it goes beyond making a good first impression. It’s about expressing your unique self and approaching each day with confidence. If you’ve been struggling with your style, this post is for you. Here’s 5 of my best tips on how to find your personal style:

1. Find Inspiration

In my opinion, Pinterest is the best way to gather inspiration. I can spend so much time on there! I recommend browsing through the fashion pins and when you see a particular outfit you love, pin it and think about how you can replicate that look with the clothes you already have. Over time, you’ll notice the type of style that you’ve been gravitating towards. Perhaps, you’re always saving minimal, clean looks. Or, maybe you lean towards a classic, feminine style. Doing this is a great way to figure out what you like and dislike. Do you have a favourite style icon? Search for them on Pinterest to see a collection of their outfits that you can use for inspiration.

2. Declutter Your Wardrobe

It’s important to go through your clothes and declutter your wardrobe. Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit, is worn out or unflattering. It’s a good idea to remove clothes that you haven’t worn in a long time too. I always go by this rule of thumb: if you haven’t worn it in a year, you probably won’t. Once you know which items you’re not going to keep, decide which of those you will donate, sell or throw out. Culling your wardrobe will help you figure out which pieces you’re loving and which are not working for you. Once you’ve finished, you can then begin to refine it with a style that reflects you.

3. Shop Smarter

Many people waste so much money following “trends.” Personal style actually has nothing to do with being on trend. Trendiness is when you purchase what’s popular at the moment, whereas personal style is more focused on what you enjoy wearing. It’s easy to think that developing your style means buying a ton of new items, but this is not the case. Personal style actually depends on having a strong wardrobe foundation containing timeless pieces that can easily mix and match with other pieces you may later add in. If you’re looking to build your wardrobe, those staple items are the perfect starting point.

4. Consider Your Lifestyle

It’s essential to consider your lifestyle when developing your personal style. Your looks should work in your everyday life, otherwise, you’ll be wasting a lot of money on clothes you don’t wear. For example, if you’re a stay-at-home mother, it’s more practical to focus on comfortable and casual outfits. If you spend most of your days in meetings at work, then adding sharp, business pieces may be necessary. Yes, you want your style to reflect your personality, but it also has to be tailored to your lifestyle.

5. Have Fun With It!

Last but not least, have fun with it! There’s no need to take your personal style too seriously. It will change and grow as you enter different phases of your life. I know, for me, my tastes have changed now I’m in my late twenties. What you should focus on is enjoying what you’re wearing, experimenting and being creative with your style, and most importantly — wearing what makes you feel like the best version of yourself.

I hope you found these tips on how to find your personal style useful. I’d love to know where you’re at in your style journey.
