5 Ways to Boost Your CreativityWhether you’re a writer, artist, crafter or hobbyist, there will be times when you feel like your creativity has hit a brick wall. I’ve experienced this multiple times before, and I know how hard it can be to stay motivated. Are you going through a creative block yourself? Don’t worry — I’ve found some tips and tricks that will get your inspiration fountain rushing back. Here’s 5 ways to boost your creativity:

1. Practice Makes Perfect

To keep your mind creative, practice your craft every single day. Even practising for just 15 minutes a day will make a difference. Try not to put too much pressure on the outcome and focus on putting passion into your creations. Maya Angelou once said, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” I think this is so true — exercising your creativity like a muscle can only result in more creativity.

2. Write It Down

I don’t know about you, but there’s been many times when a great idea has popped into my head when I’m not expecting it. Too often, I tell myself that I will remember the idea and don’t need to write it down. This is a big mistake! Always, write down your ideas as soon they come. That way, you won’t need to worry about forgetting any. What’s more, it will train your brain to keep the ideas coming.

3. Try Something New

Often times, many of us will stick to the things we know and won’t try anything new. But, trying something new is a great way to boost your creativity. It could be something as simple as trying a new creative pursuit. If you’re a writer, try crocheting. If you’re an artist, try writing a poem. There are so many different ways to be creative. Doing this will challenge yourself and inspire a new kind of creativity and as a result, help you be more creative in other aspects of your life.

4. Go for a Walk

Sometimes, a change of scenery is all you need. Going out for a walk energises the body and gets your feel-good endorphins flowing. Even going for a short walk is very beneficial. I personally feel way more refreshed and invigorated after getting some fresh air. Not only is walking good for your mood and health, it boots your creativity too. Studies have indicated that walking greatly improves creative thinking.

5. Relax

Your best ideas won’t always come when you’re wracking your brain trying to come up with one. Often, they’ll come when you’re feeling completely relaxed. There’s many different ways to unwind, including walking, reading, writing, hiking or exercising. For some, taking a power nap or simply doing nothing, makes them their most relaxed self. By relaxing, you rejuvenate your mind and creativity flows naturally.

I hope these strategies help you out as much as they did for me. If you know of any other helpful ways to boost your creativity, please do share them in the comments section!
