I like to keep my beauty routine simple and prefer not to have a huge stash of beauty supplies in my cupboard. That’s why I love multipurpose products like witch hazel, a beauty must-have for me. With just one bottle of witch hazel, you can solve a multitude of beauty dilemmas. How handy is that? Another huge plus is the fact that it’s completely natural, so it’s free of artificial ingredients that many other products contain. Amazing! In today’s post, I’m sharing five of my favourite beauty uses of witch hazel:
So what is witch hazel exactly?
Witch hazel comes from the leaves and bark of the witch hazel shrub. It’s been used for centuries and is especially known for its benefits on the skin. It’s made into an astringent and used as a health and beauty remedy.
Here’s 5 of my favourite beauty uses of witch hazel:
1. Toner
If you have combination to oily skin like me, then I’d definitely recommend using witch hazel as a toner. Simply dab a few drops onto a cotton pad and gently rub it over your face after you’ve cleansed. It tones the skin and will leave you with a glowy complexion.
2. Spot Treatment
Witch hazel is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. As it’s an astringent, it’s also excellent at clearing and tightening your pores to help control excess oil and blemishes. Put some witch hazel on a cotton pad and apply to any problem areas.
3. Razor Bumps
As witch hazel is anti-septic and anti-inflammatory, it completely soothes the skin and is a great way to prevent razor bumps and ingrown hair. Simply swipe a witch hazel-soaked cotton pad over freshly shaved skin and it will help calm the skin and keep it bump-free.
4. Sunburn Relief
Just a few months ago, I got the worst sunburn I ever had in my life and witch hazel was a lifesaver. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it can provide immense pain relief. It also has a cooling effect, which feels very good when applying.
5. Makeup Remover
Yes — witch hazel works great as a makeup remover too! It’s brilliant at removing oil and water-based makeup. Combine 3 tablespoons of witch hazel with 2 tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil for a DIY all-natural makeup remover.
Is witch hazel an ingredient that you use in your beauty routine? I’d love to know what your favourite beauty uses of nature’s astringent are!
