Aloe vera is a popular plant remedy that has been used since ancient times by different cultures throughout the world. I’ve already spoken about the many ways you can use aloe vera on your skin and hair. With its numerous beauty uses, aloe vera is an essential ingredient for many. Due to its healing properties, aloe vera works especially good as part of your skincare routine. In today’s post, I’m going to discuss the ways in which you can use aloe vera for acne-prone skin. If you would like to find out how this wonder plant can help you achieve healthy, clear skin, then keep on reading!

Does Aloe Vera for Acne-Prone Skin Work?

Yes! Aloe vera gel is a very beneficial ingredient to add to your skincare routine if you have acne-prone skin. Here’s why:

  • Aloe vera is able to remove excess oil from the skin, which is a common cause of clogged pores, blemishes and acne.
  • As it’s anti-inflammatory, aloe vera can help reduce the swelling of spots and pimples. It’s also known for its wound-healing properties, so it may even aid in healing open acne blemishes too.
  • The plant contains polyphenols and other antioxidants that can help fight against acne-producing bacteria. Data suggests that aloe may have antimicrobial properties too.
  • Aloe vera is very soothing and cooling. That’s why people like to use it to help relieve sunburns. It can also soothe other skin irritations, including acne.
  • Although aloe vera can’t remove acne scars, it can help with the hyperpigmentation left after spots and pimples have healed. This is due to a compound contained in the plant called Aloin.

Best Type of Aloe Vera for Acne-Prone Skin

The best way to use aloe vera gel is to get it straight from the plant. Harvest the leaves, split them open with a knife and scrape out the gel with a spoon. Not able to do this? No worries. You can purchase a good quality aloe vera gel. Make sure you choose one that is all-natural, such as this one by Aloe Pura.

How to Use Aloe Vera Gel

It’s very easy to start adding aloe vera into your skincare regimen. You can use it as an antibacterial spray, spot treatment or mask. You may find these beauty recipes effective if you have mild or moderate acne.

Aloe Vera Antibacterial Spray:

Mix 1/4 cup of purified water, 1 tablespoon of aloe vera, and 1-2 drops of your favourite pure essential oil. Spritz this cooling antibacterial spray on your face throughout the day to soothe the skin. Make sure to shake well before use.

Aloe Vera Spot Treatment:

To use aloe vera as a spot treatment, apply the gel directly onto any spots and blemishes. Leave the aloe vera on overnight, and then wash it off in the morning.

Aloe Vera Mask:

Aloe vera gel mixed with honey can be used as a face mask 1-2 times a week. Mix 2 tablespoons of pure honey with 1 tablespoon of pure aloe vera. Apply the mask to freshly cleansed skin and leave it to sit for 5-10 minutes. Wash off gently with warm water.
