5 Binge-worthy TV Shows to Check Out

There’s nothing quite like settling in for a cosy weekend marathon of a truly binge-worthy TV show. From comedies that make you laugh out loud to gripping family dramas that keep you glued to your seat, I’ve shared 5 binge-worthy TV shows to check out:

The Handmaid’s Tale

Across its six seasons, The Handmaid’s Tale takes you into the oppressive world of Gilead, where women are stripped of their rights, yet resistance quietly grows beneath the surface. With some TV series, they start off strong and lose their spark by the final series — but this isn’t one of them. The most recent season was just as gripping and thought-provoking. It features an outstanding cast who bring such emotional depth to every scene (especially Elizabeth Moss), and amazing cinematography. Season six delivers a solid, satisfying ending, although there are still some questions open. The series explores feminist themes, highlighting the dangers of patriarchal control, and the importance of fighting for what is right. A must-watch for all! (The TV series is currently available on Channel 4 in the UK. You can also check out my Handmaid’s Tale book review here.)

Dead to Me

Dead to Me is a dark comedy that is available to watch on Netflix. Across its three seasons, the show expertly balances moments of laughter with heart-breaking scenes. This is all set against the unique friendship between Jen, a widow struggling with grief (played by Christina Applegate) and Judy, whose own mysterious past slowly unravels (played by Linda Cardellini). As secrets come to light, their bond is tested. I thought that the the two actresses have great chemistry and delivered amazing performances. I found the storyline and plot quite unique, and enjoyed all of the twists and turns. Dead to Me is a gripping TV show that will have you both laughing out loud and grabbing the tissues. It deals with the themes of grief, forgiveness, and friendship, and is definitely worth the watch.

Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris is a romantic comedy that follows Emily, a young marketing executive from Chicago, as she embarks on a whirlwind adventure to Paris and navigates work, love, and friendship. The TV show features gorgeous Parisian backdrops, vibrant fashion and charming characters. Although she makes plenty of mistakes, Emily (played by Lily Collins) is definitely a likeable character and you do find yourself rooting for her. The show is very watchable and I did find myself wanting to watch “just one more episode!” If you’re a fan of romantic comedies and after an easy-to-watch light-hearted show, Emily in Paris is a perfect choice. (It’s available to watch on Netflix and a new series is due later this year.)

Greenleaf

Greenleaf is a gripping family drama that delves into the secrets, faith, and power struggles within a megachurch. It centres on the powerful Greenleaf family and the upheaval that follows when Grace returns home, stirring up long-hidden secrets. Over its five seasons, the show explores complex relationships, hidden sins, and the hidden truths behind closed (church) doors. The cast all deliver great performances, especially the lead actress, Merle Dandridge. The storyline features so many twists and turns, and is very gripping to watch. If you’re drawn to stories about family, loyalty and faith, Greenleaf is a compelling watch. (Greenleaf is available to watch on Netflix.)

The Perfect Couple

If you like murder mysteries or phycological thrillers, then The Perfect Couple should be your next watch. It centres around a high-profile wedding that quickly unravels when a shocking crime occurs. As secrets from both families come to light, the search for truth reveals complicated relationships and hidden motives, making everyone a suspect. The series offers a compelling mix of mystery, drama, and psychological twists, and is a very easy watch. It boasts an amazing cast, including Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Dakota Fanning. I found the plot very engaging and layered, and it kept me hooked until the very end. I also loved the choreographed dancing intro! As its a mini-series on Netflix with eight episodes, The Perfect Couple is the perfect weekend watch.
