5 Signs It’s Time to Declutter Your HomeDo you ever feel like you have too much stuff lying around your home? If the answer is yes, then it may be time to declutter. Whether you have unwanted decor, papers, clothes or toys taking up space, decluttering can be very beneficial and will simplify your life. Personally, I feel good after a decluttering session. I feel weighed down by a home filled with useless objects and love a tidy, decluttered space. Owning fewer things means you won’t need to clean or organise as much. Seeing as you won’t want to add more clutter, you’ll also shop less and save loads of money. So, how do you know when it’s time to declutter in the first place? Here’s 5 signs it’s time to declutter your home:

1. You Feel Like You’re Always Tidying Up

A cluttered home takes a lot of time to maintain. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be constantly tidying up and trying to keep mess under control. If you find that clutter often gets dispersed around your home, even though everything has a designated space, then it’s definitely time to let some things go.

2. You Can’t Find Anything You Need

Do you feel like you can never find all of the things you need? Are you always looking through piles and piles of stuff trying to find something to no avail? Can you never find your keys when you’re in a hurry and need to be out the door? Regularly losing items or spending time looking for them means it’s time to declutter your home.

3. Your Cabinets Can’t Close

I know how easy it can be to accumulate items in your kitchen cabinets. Mugs, glassware, dishes, bowls and the like can leave your cabinets overflowing. The reason why it’s very easy to allow these areas to get cluttered is simply due to the fact that you’re not seeing them all the time. If you’ve noticed that your kitchen cabinets are too full and can’t stay closed, that’s a sure sign it’s time to throw some items out.

Do you find yourself short on hangers and drawer space? If so, you most likely have too many clothes. Take some time to go through your clothes and pull out anything that no longer fits or that you haven’t worn in the past six months. Decide which items could be donated and which items need to be thrown away. Check out my post on How to Declutter Your Wardrobe for more tips on this.

5. You’re Embarrassed of Your Home

When friends or family come over to visit, do you find yourself rushing to tidy up your home? Are you always apologising for the mess? If this is the case, you may even avoid hosting people at all so that they don’t see the state of your home. If your clutter is a source of embarrassment, it’s definitely time to declutter.

These are all signs that you need to declutter your home. Your home should be a peaceful, safe place. Clutter is noisy, stressful and takes up too much space. When you decide to declutter, be persistent and keep at it, whether it takes days, weeks or months. In the long run, a clutter-free home will leave you feeling happier and so much more comfortable in your space.
