Previously on this blog, I’ve written about some of the many health benefits of honey. Today, I’m going to be discussing the different ways you can use this sweet golden liquid in your beauty routine. Thanks to honey’s antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it’s excellent for healing your skin. What’s more, as honey acts as a humectant, it gives your skin a huge moisture boost. Read on to find out 8 amazing beauty uses of honey to benefit your skin, hair and nails:

The Benefits of Using Honey in Your Beauty Routine

  • Moisturising & Hydrating – Due to the enzymes it contains and the fact that it’s a humectant, honey deeply moisturises the skin from deep within and keeps it hydrated.
  • Fights Acne – Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and can clear out clogged pores. As a result, this helps prevent acne and spots on the skin.
  • Anti-ageing Properties – The antioxidants, nutrients and enzymes in honey help reduce wrinkles and fine lines. It keeps the skin supple, plump and nourished.
  • Helps Skin Conditions – Due to its soothing effect on the skin, studies have shown that honey may be able to help treat seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.

8 Amazing Beauty Uses of Honey:

To Benefit Your Hair, Skin & Nails ~

1. Moisturising Face Mask

The natural humectants in honey increase the water content in the skin and reduce dryness. Due to how deeply hydrating it is, honey is perfect as a moisturising face mask. To try this, simply apply raw honey onto clean, dry skin and leave it on for 20 minutes. Next, rinse it off thoroughly with warm water. You’ll be left with soft, radiant and glowing skin.

2. Face Cleanser

Honey is a gentle, healing cleanser that is able to clear out the pores and help get rid of blackheads. Mix one tablespoon of raw honey with two tablespoons of coconut oil. Massage the mixture into your skin in circular motions (avoiding the eye area) and then rinse it off. After using this DIY honey cleanser for a short while, you should notice that your skin looks clear and healthy.

3. Exfoliator

When mixed with baking soda, honey makes an excellent exfoliator. The enzymes in honey exfoliate your skin by gently removing the dead skin cells, revealing a smoother, brighter complexion. Mix two tablespoons of raw honey with one tablespoon of baking soda. Gently rub the mixture onto your face in a circular motion and then rinse it off. Remember to exfoliate no more than 1-2 times a week.

4. Spot Treatment

As I mentioned before, honey is antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Because of these properties, honey can help fight acne-causing bacteria and calm redness and irritation.  Dab raw honey with a cotton swab onto your blemishes, let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse.

5. Bath Soak

Taking a honey-infused bath is not only incredibly relaxing, but it will leave your skin feeling silky soft and soothed. It’s a great way to rebalance dry skin during the colder months. Add two cups of raw honey to your running bath water and soak in it.

6. Scar Fader

Did you know that honey can help fade any scars you have? It minimises inflammation and helps heal the skin faster. In addition, the antioxidants it contains help repair damaged skin. Massage raw honey directly to the affected area in circular motions for a few minutes before rinsing.

7. Cuticle moisturizer

Keep your cuticles healthy and peel-free by using honey as a cuticle moisturiser. Due to how moisturising honey is, it works amazingly well. Rub raw honey over each cuticle and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, letting the nutrients sink in and heal the skin. Then, rinse it off.

8.  Hydrating Hair Mask

Honey works great as a hair mask for all hair types. It delivers a major moisture boost and leaves your hair feeling ultra soft. Mix one tablespoon of raw honey with two tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply the mixture to the hair, from the roots to the tips. Leave it in for 30 minutes before washing it out thoroughly.

What is The Best Type of Honey to Purchase?

The best type of honey to buy is raw, pure honey. You can purchase raw honey from Amazon that is pure, unpasteurized and unfiltered.

So those are some of the amazing beauty uses of honey! Have you tried using any of these methods?
