We’ve all had those mornings when we wake up feeling groggy and sluggish, even though we’ve had enough sleep the night before. Many turn to their fix of coffee to wake themselves up and kickstart their day. But, did you know there are plenty of other ways to feel awake in the mornings without caffeine? Today, I’m sharing 7 methods I’ve tried that really work:
1. Drink Water
After a good night’s sleep, it’s important to replenish your body by drinking a glass of water. Multiple studies show that even mild dehydration can cause you to feel tired and lethargic. So, to feel more awake, it’s essential to stay hydrated. If you’re not a fan of plain water, then a great option is lime or lemon water. I love starting my day this way!
2. Healthy Breakfast
If you tend to skip breakfast, you may feel more tired in the morning. The calories in food equate to energy; so, eating breakfast is a sure-fire way to improve your energy levels. Due to the fact that it’s rich in fibre, packed with nutrients and very filling, oatmeal is always a good breakfast choice. Fruit and vegetables are also very beneficial. Why not start your day with a delicious smoothie?
3. Morning Routine
If your bedtime varies on the weekend and in the week, it’s going to be hard for your body to adjust. Keeping a consistent sleep schedule will ensure that your body gets into a natural rhythm. Try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day, even on the weekends. After doing this for a while, you’ll find that waking up feels a lot more natural.
4. Cold Shower
I know the thought of a cold shower sounds insane, but it actually works. The instant change in temperature will make you feel more alert and can even relieve stress. If you don’t like the sound of it (I don’t blame you!), you could turn the water on cold for the final minute or simply splash your face with some cool water instead.
5. Work Out
Carrying out some gentle stretches or a light workout can help you feel more awake in the mornings. It helps improve blood flow, circulation and oxygen levels, and as a result, you’ll gain more energy. Even working out for a short period can be a great pick-me-up. As exercise releases endorphins, your mood will be lifted too!
6. Stimulate Your Brain
Instead of logging onto your social media accounts and getting lost in a mindless scroll, make time for a morning activity that will stimulate your brain. Perhaps, you could do a sudoku or crossword puzzle to make your brain feel more alert. I often like to journal in the mornings, which can range from writing down a brain dump, the things I’m thankful for or a to-do list.
7. Go Outside
Exposing yourself to direct sunlight will give you a huge energy boost. This is because it alerts your body’s internal clock to wake up. What’s more, going outside will boost your Vitamin D intake, which has been proven to significantly improve energy levels. You’ll start your day feeling refreshed and enthusiastic, ready for whatever comes your way.
As you can see, there are many ways to feel awake in the mornings without caffeine. These simple tips will help give you that morning boost. Have you ever tried any of these? Let me know in the comments section.

No problem! I hope you found these tips useful.
Some great ideas here. I totally agree that simply drinking water in the morning and throughout the day can really help with tiredness. I have thought about giving yoga a go in the morning to help me wake up when I’m feeling sluggish and your post has made me think that I should. Thanks for sharing.
