I think most of us aim to make changes that will make us happier and healthier. However, making big changes can be very intimidating. What if I told you that you can make small changes that will make a big difference in your life? Instead of taking huge steps, focus on these 6 small changes that you can start doing immediately to improve your everyday life:
1. Perfect Your Morning Routine
The way you start your day determines how the rest of your day will pan out. Because of this, it’s so important to create a morning routine that works well for you. Everyone’s routine will look very different (especially because of the times we’re in at the moment). Some of us work from home while others have to make the trek into work. Whatever the case is for you, it’s a really good idea to find some time for yourself in the morning, even if it’s just fifteen minutes. You could use this time to enjoy some morning coffee, write in your notebook, or even carry out some light exercises. Finding the right morning routine is key and will set the stage for a great day.
2. Practise Gratitude
Practising gratitude is one of the best small changes you can make. There’s so many things that we take for granted every day: family, health, the food we have to eat, the clothes on our back, the roof over our heads. If you make it a daily habit to be thankful for your blessings, you’ll completely transform your life. A great way to practise gratitude is by writing down three things you’re thankful for every day. Gratitude makes you a lot more positive and helps your brain focus on things that are good and bring you joy. This pandemic has really put a lot of things into perspective for a lot of people and made us thankful for what truly matters in life.
3. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
I’m sure you’ve heard of the phrase “comparison is the thief of joy” before — it’s so true! Comparing yourself to others will just make you miserable and unhappy. So, don’t worry about what others have and what you don’t. The trick is to focus on your own journey and your own definition of success. For example, you may have people in your life who define success as working 24-7 and making as much money as possible. Whereas, for yourself, you may prefer to work from home or to focus on family. Always concentrate on your own goals and what makes you happy.
4. Be More Organised
Being an organised person will definitely improve your life. Without question, being organised helps you to be more efficient and productive. Due to the fact that you’ll be on top of everything on your to-do list, you’ll be stress-free and happier. You’ll also have a tidier home, which has a positive impact on your mind. If you’re an organised person, you’ll have more time for meal prep and planning, so you’re more likely to choose healthier options. Most importantly, the advantages of being organised are about having more time for you and allowing you to live more intentionally.
5. Get Active
Being active has countless benefits. If you’re new to exercise, it’s best to start small. You could go for short 15-20 minute walks in your area at first. Eventually, you could start doing some light exercises and then later, daily workouts– just find something that works best for you. You will feel so much better, both physically and mentally. Research has shown that exercise boosts your energy levels, elevates your mood and what’s more, helps you stress less. If you go for a brisk walk or a run outside, the fresh air will give you a huge boost too.
6. Read More Books
Not only does your body need exercise, but your brain does too. Reading keeps your brain sharp and gives it a mental workout. Studies have shown that there are so many benefits to reading: it keeps your brain stimulated, improves your memory, enhances your focus and reduces stress. Whether you enjoy reading historical fiction or self-help books, reading is a very positive and enjoyable hobby to have and another one of the best small changes to add to your life. If you’re not a voracious reader, then set yourself an achievable reading goal by beginning with a book a month or 20 pages a day.

Great post! Getting up early and setting a morning routine has changed my day 🙂 People think I am crazy for waking up at 6 every morning, but I take time to journal and relax before starting my day… It definitely makes my mood so much better!

Thanks, Jenna! I find the same to be true for me. Setting a morning routine really does make a huge difference.
Comparing myself to others is one of my worst habits. I’ve tried so hard to stop in recent months but it’s hard to unlearn something!
I know that changing this will make such a difference for me!
Thanks for your tips!
Rosie
You’re welcome, Rosie! I think most of us struggle with comparison at some point. Yep, it’s tough to unlearn but so liberating when we’re able to accept ourselves.
Totally agree with all these changes!! I’ve gotten down the daily activity, gratitude, and the morning routine but I struggle so much with finding time to read books because my brain is usually dead by the evening haha. Still gotta figure that one out. Great post!
Thanks, Tsvetty! That’s great that you already do some of these tips. Yep, it can be hard to find time for reading!
