1. Love Hard (2021)
After meeting her perfect match on a dating app, a dating columnist from Los Angeles discovers that she’s been catfished when she makes a surprise visit to him for Christmas. Love Hard delivers a refreshing twist to the typical holiday romance genre, and shares a deeper message about authenticity, self acceptance, and the idea of the “perfect match”. The main characters, played by Nina Dobrev and Jimmy O. Yang, are charming and relatable, and you find yourself rooting for these two flawed and imperfect people to fall in love. A must-watch!
2. Holidate (2020)
Fed up of being mocked for being single, two strangers agree to be each other’s platonic dates for each of the holidays all year long, only to start falling for each other. The chemistry between the main characters, played by Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, is believable and great to watch. Holidate is light, good fun, and has a lot of hilarious moments. It’s very easy watching and definitely worth a watch.
3. Our Little Secret (2024)
Starring Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding, Our Little Secret is about two exes who, after discovering their new partners are siblings, must spend Christmas together while pretending they’re complete strangers. Lohan does a really good job in her return to the screen. Although a bit predictable, overall the film is an enjoyable watch due to its humour, engaging plot, and touch of Christmas magic.
4. Meet Me Next Christmas (2024)
Meet Me Next Christmas follows Layla, played by Christina Milian, as she races to secure tickets to a sold-out Pentatonix Christmas Eve concert. A year earlier, she agreed to meet James, a charming stranger, there if they were both single. However, she finds her heart pulled in a direction she hadn’t anticipated. It is an easy, enjoyable watch due to its talented cast, good acting and heart-warming plot.
5. The Holiday (2006)
The Holiday follows two women, Iris and Amanda, who swap homes during the holiday season to escape their recent heartbreaks. Set in both a cosy English cottage and a glamorous Los Angeles mansion, the story unfolds with humour, romance, and self-discovery. The film has an amazing cast and delivers great performances from Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black. It’s a feel-good tale about love, friendship, and finding happiness in the most surprising places.
